This is the fifth, and final part of my little ongoing series on Anette...and will likely be my shortest as well. Like I mentioned in part four this will be Anette Decille looking forward, however forward means nothing to somebody if they know nothing from what has already been put in front of her. The story has unfolded very...dangerously for the spitfire, starting out the campaign only with Clayrion by her side, the duo of a healer and a tank could only do so much (and as I write this, I finally realize how absurd it would feel to be tanked by a tiny red headed woman, alas) The first fight they were a part of was a close call because a giant cowardly bird unsurprisingly had the range advantage on a mace and a great sword. The two prevailed after Clayrion used some well timed spells to disorient the chicken and make it crash land, allowing it to be promptly sliced and diced by Anette...they ate well that night.
Not soon after this after a stop in a tavern they heard of a woman who was assaulted and killed by a group of punks, in a brilliantly out of character moment (and a sickeningly metagaming moment for me) Anette demanded that Clayrion and her go and find her...all the while I knew that this woman was Talia, the soon to be third party member of the squad...my bad guys, my bad.
The two found her and all hell broke loose, and I mean that nearly literally, with the ambush, attack and eventual overwhelming by way of undead Clayrion and Anette fought valiantly only to be slain one after the other. Needless to say Debby and I were confused at this outcome, a little pissed but confused. The second and third death we had witnessed while playing DnD thus far had both occurred at once, total party wiping our little army of two...then the DM chimed in and we were on our way. The plot of this delightful romp supplemented by murderous zombies was placed in front of us. Four powerful souls were killed by either natural causes (Vli) an assault (Talia) or divine friggin' intervention in the case of Anette and Clayrion. Decessus (our world's goddess of death) killed us, and picked up the scraps of the other two, only to revive us in order to gain revenge on five individuals who have stolen portions of her divinity from her...why would we help her? we get to live if we do, and we would be tortured for eternity if we chose not to, she kinda had us here. In exchange for doing her dirty work, we lived once more and also gained some of her remaining divinity, which allowed for the use of a wish once every seven days, at the cost of our purity essentially...not a good trade off, but the DM was conniving enough numerous times to get us to use it.
Long story short we traversed the landscape en route towards the nearest target, on the way finding a church which was tormented for years by Succubi under the guises of the two high priestesses, We killed them of course (after one bit Anette starting a trend) and used our evil wish to revive the true priestesses, saving the church and tainting us all at the same time.
The next stop was in a small town, Vli found a tiny halfling love interest here...only for her to be used by our first target. This target was a very annoying, very offensive and down right cruel jester doppleganger...for anyone who is not well versed with Dungeons and Dragons home brew, lets just call him....BS. As my spelling is likely off, due to the DM not liking simple names, this annoyance's name was Specchio, he kidnapped the little halfling (Alexandra) and posed as her to strike Vli's body, and mess with his head and heart...we killed him and all was right in the world for vli and his non-titan girlfriend...oddest of all, sex was implied between the two even though Vli thinks he is a damned titan.
After a lovely trip into a tomb (where Anette got bitten by a vampire) our next main stop brought us to a village completely ravaged by rogue lycanthropes. Talia wanted to save the village from forced lycanthopy. Needless to say, we were severely out numbered, Anette took down the leading Werebear (who along with two werewolves...also bit her) and after that, we used out divinity to return the village back to it's prior humanoid state and lost more of our now dwindling goodness.
Staying in the village to help fix it up for a week we got completely blindsided by our second target and his imposing body guard, a body guard who would of course be revealed as Anette's older sister Adelle, and man was she mean. The target, Atreioucuh. (again spelling is likely off due to DM making everything more difficult than it should be) so...you guessed it we killed them though this one was full of so many hitches you would think it was written by Stephen King. First of all, after Adelle was killed her cleric client who I am not going to spell the name of again flipped out, lost control of his stolen divinity and obliterated everything within five miles, everything aside from Clayrion and comedically the broken and battered, unconscious Talia. Clayrion lost it seeing what he lost all in the blink of an eye and beat Mr. Never ending story to death viscously with his shield, not his mace, not a spell, but bludgeoned him to death with his shield. After he realized what he had done, because of the sudden loss, he called into the sky for Decessus demanded she revive Vli and definitely Anette and she complied knowing that a group would not do too well with no muscle reviving the barbarian and the fighter. Clayrion also demanded that Adelle be brought back and she was surprisingly revived...guess Death was in a good mood that day.
The village however was still ravaged and this hurt Clayrion to the core, needing, not just choosing to call upon Decessus and the power of Death also shook him up greatly, the final straw broke when Clayrion lost his best friend, and within minutes realized he brutally killed the father of his childhood friends to be born child in cold blood it broke him up and he completely lost it for a good chunk of time. Questioning himself as a cleric of valor, thinking about switching to the church of light and desperately pleading with Decessus to bring back Gesundheit even going so far as to offering up a deal. His eternal soul to punish after this entire ordeal of revenge was over, as Decessus was declining Anette offered her self up as well all to give her sister's husband back. The deal fell on deaf ears as Decessus declined stating that alphabet was more of a prize, not only for revenge, but because he was the highest priest of Sumeis...the most powerful church in our continuity.
So we are all not doing too well, we are all on the brink of sanity, we are outlaws for essentially killing the pope, Anette's hulking sister is out there, no doubt plotting revenge for her fallen husband. Currently we are in a swamp region of Iunctio treading cautiously toward our third target, but with all of us failing in keeping our minds, moving toward a person we know nothing about, who apparently destroys or steals the souls of those she defeats...wish us luck everyone.
Wait...did I say shortest? I guess I got carried away, but the ideas going forward are blatant and to the point, so let us get started on the beginning of the end.
1: I feel Anette has to become to attached to....well somebody out side of the party. Right now she seems dull, and very detached from the world she is in due to her tunnel vision on the safety of Clayrion, yes that is her character and her purpose, but she seems inhuman at this point in the game. I don't mean romantic, nor do I forbid romantic, anyone she can form a bond with, would be leaps and bounds more interesting to play.
2: Anette has to get frustrated with Clayrion for some reason eventually. Either jealousy, repetition driving her insane or anything else, I am sick of her being the most absurdly omnipresent yes woman.
lastly
3: Not really for Anette her self, but I really need to act her out much better...she is essentially Ben Stein at this point.
With that my friends, I believe I am done on the topic of my beloved great sword wielding read headed, emotionally frail spitfire, Anette, I hope you only get better with time.
