This is the fifth, and final part of my little ongoing series on Anette...and will likely be my shortest as well. Like I mentioned in part four this will be Anette Decille looking forward, however forward means nothing to somebody if they know nothing from what has already been put in front of her. The story has unfolded very...dangerously for the spitfire, starting out the campaign only with Clayrion by her side, the duo of a healer and a tank could only do so much (and as I write this, I finally realize how absurd it would feel to be tanked by a tiny red headed woman, alas) The first fight they were a part of was a close call because a giant cowardly bird unsurprisingly had the range advantage on a mace and a great sword. The two prevailed after Clayrion used some well timed spells to disorient the chicken and make it crash land, allowing it to be promptly sliced and diced by Anette...they ate well that night.
Not soon after this after a stop in a tavern they heard of a woman who was assaulted and killed by a group of punks, in a brilliantly out of character moment (and a sickeningly metagaming moment for me) Anette demanded that Clayrion and her go and find her...all the while I knew that this woman was Talia, the soon to be third party member of the squad...my bad guys, my bad.
The two found her and all hell broke loose, and I mean that nearly literally, with the ambush, attack and eventual overwhelming by way of undead Clayrion and Anette fought valiantly only to be slain one after the other. Needless to say Debby and I were confused at this outcome, a little pissed but confused. The second and third death we had witnessed while playing DnD thus far had both occurred at once, total party wiping our little army of two...then the DM chimed in and we were on our way. The plot of this delightful romp supplemented by murderous zombies was placed in front of us. Four powerful souls were killed by either natural causes (Vli) an assault (Talia) or divine friggin' intervention in the case of Anette and Clayrion. Decessus (our world's goddess of death) killed us, and picked up the scraps of the other two, only to revive us in order to gain revenge on five individuals who have stolen portions of her divinity from her...why would we help her? we get to live if we do, and we would be tortured for eternity if we chose not to, she kinda had us here. In exchange for doing her dirty work, we lived once more and also gained some of her remaining divinity, which allowed for the use of a wish once every seven days, at the cost of our purity essentially...not a good trade off, but the DM was conniving enough numerous times to get us to use it.
Long story short we traversed the landscape en route towards the nearest target, on the way finding a church which was tormented for years by Succubi under the guises of the two high priestesses, We killed them of course (after one bit Anette starting a trend) and used our evil wish to revive the true priestesses, saving the church and tainting us all at the same time.
The next stop was in a small town, Vli found a tiny halfling love interest here...only for her to be used by our first target. This target was a very annoying, very offensive and down right cruel jester doppleganger...for anyone who is not well versed with Dungeons and Dragons home brew, lets just call him....BS. As my spelling is likely off, due to the DM not liking simple names, this annoyance's name was Specchio, he kidnapped the little halfling (Alexandra) and posed as her to strike Vli's body, and mess with his head and heart...we killed him and all was right in the world for vli and his non-titan girlfriend...oddest of all, sex was implied between the two even though Vli thinks he is a damned titan.
After a lovely trip into a tomb (where Anette got bitten by a vampire) our next main stop brought us to a village completely ravaged by rogue lycanthropes. Talia wanted to save the village from forced lycanthopy. Needless to say, we were severely out numbered, Anette took down the leading Werebear (who along with two werewolves...also bit her) and after that, we used out divinity to return the village back to it's prior humanoid state and lost more of our now dwindling goodness.
Staying in the village to help fix it up for a week we got completely blindsided by our second target and his imposing body guard, a body guard who would of course be revealed as Anette's older sister Adelle, and man was she mean. The target, Atreioucuh. (again spelling is likely off due to DM making everything more difficult than it should be) so...you guessed it we killed them though this one was full of so many hitches you would think it was written by Stephen King. First of all, after Adelle was killed her cleric client who I am not going to spell the name of again flipped out, lost control of his stolen divinity and obliterated everything within five miles, everything aside from Clayrion and comedically the broken and battered, unconscious Talia. Clayrion lost it seeing what he lost all in the blink of an eye and beat Mr. Never ending story to death viscously with his shield, not his mace, not a spell, but bludgeoned him to death with his shield. After he realized what he had done, because of the sudden loss, he called into the sky for Decessus demanded she revive Vli and definitely Anette and she complied knowing that a group would not do too well with no muscle reviving the barbarian and the fighter. Clayrion also demanded that Adelle be brought back and she was surprisingly revived...guess Death was in a good mood that day.
The village however was still ravaged and this hurt Clayrion to the core, needing, not just choosing to call upon Decessus and the power of Death also shook him up greatly, the final straw broke when Clayrion lost his best friend, and within minutes realized he brutally killed the father of his childhood friends to be born child in cold blood it broke him up and he completely lost it for a good chunk of time. Questioning himself as a cleric of valor, thinking about switching to the church of light and desperately pleading with Decessus to bring back Gesundheit even going so far as to offering up a deal. His eternal soul to punish after this entire ordeal of revenge was over, as Decessus was declining Anette offered her self up as well all to give her sister's husband back. The deal fell on deaf ears as Decessus declined stating that alphabet was more of a prize, not only for revenge, but because he was the highest priest of Sumeis...the most powerful church in our continuity.
So we are all not doing too well, we are all on the brink of sanity, we are outlaws for essentially killing the pope, Anette's hulking sister is out there, no doubt plotting revenge for her fallen husband. Currently we are in a swamp region of Iunctio treading cautiously toward our third target, but with all of us failing in keeping our minds, moving toward a person we know nothing about, who apparently destroys or steals the souls of those she defeats...wish us luck everyone.
Wait...did I say shortest? I guess I got carried away, but the ideas going forward are blatant and to the point, so let us get started on the beginning of the end.
1: I feel Anette has to become to attached to....well somebody out side of the party. Right now she seems dull, and very detached from the world she is in due to her tunnel vision on the safety of Clayrion, yes that is her character and her purpose, but she seems inhuman at this point in the game. I don't mean romantic, nor do I forbid romantic, anyone she can form a bond with, would be leaps and bounds more interesting to play.
2: Anette has to get frustrated with Clayrion for some reason eventually. Either jealousy, repetition driving her insane or anything else, I am sick of her being the most absurdly omnipresent yes woman.
lastly
3: Not really for Anette her self, but I really need to act her out much better...she is essentially Ben Stein at this point.
With that my friends, I believe I am done on the topic of my beloved great sword wielding read headed, emotionally frail spitfire, Anette, I hope you only get better with time.

How She came to be: Anette Decille Part four
Talia The on again, off again werewolf monk with a heart of...bronze at best. |
Vli the Titan....he has sixteen Charisma |
Like I said, this time I will be going over my own performance compared to my initial ideas for how the character of Anette would go. Before that however, I would like to give a quick rundown of colorful cast of characters she has been travelling with, and by colorful I mean absolutely insane.
First off let us go with the man who made Anette work for this quest, Clayrion Des Malyce.
Clayrion (The Cleric) in a fairly simple man, following the god of valor he tried to be as valorous as humanly possible for the early parts of the story. His relationship with Anette has been very brotherly up until this point. Friendly insults, jabs at her shoulder and the like have been a basic pattern for him. (Though the player: Debby tends to play that way with most of his characters thus far) In Combat he has essentially taken the role of the pure healer, and at the current time in the story is starting to get upset with only being able to heal efficiently and not help out too much with the combat, trying to add buff's and de buffs into his book of tricks. During the story, his religion has been greatly tested, along with his mental stability. not going into the story yet, but let's just say he has been on the wrong side of the goddess of death and temporarily lost his marbles because of it.
Talia Nirokson (The Monk) Talia is a bizarre case for a character, She wants to befriend Anette quite a bit, and Anette would like to be close friends with her...only they are members of opposing religions. Theoretically this should not mean anything for level headed people, but A) Neither of these women are level headed and B)Nirok, the god Talia follows is only a god because he stole divinity from Nidne, the goddess of fate, who split up into the twin goddesses of Luck and misfortune...who Anette just so happens to worship, as did her Mother and many of the Decille women and men alike. Anette has thus far kept her beliefs secret from Talia but for how long it will be hidden is completely unknown. Another reason for Talia being a bizarre character to Anette is that she showed some romantic interest in Clayrion early on, and then stopped, this annoyed Anette due to Clayrion wondering slightly as well as Anette Noticing it and wondering if something or somebody was at fault. Lastly, and unfortunately most cripplingly, The player behind Talia has recently stopped caring. The Player has completely stopped caring about the Game or the group in this particular story. The dislike of playing a melee class, lack of interest in his own character and general attitude in general has really killed Talia, making her by far the least liked character in the party from a player standpoint, which is unfortunate due to her early session relationships and the effort put forth.
Last, but certainly most, Vli the Titan (The Barbarian) What can I say about Vli?...he is the most beloved character in the year and change we have been playing as a group... the guy is nothing but amazing on nearly every level. Vli is a halfling, with serious delusions of being a Titan...I am not kidding. Vli is under three feet tall, but believes he can touch the tops of mountains. This is a simply wonderful Gag, played out by Teleghost, the same person who drew my profile picture and the picture I used for Anette in part two. We have to enter a gate, Vli drops to all fours and slowly and carefully crawls under it. He attempts to eat as much as a titan, yet his little halfling stomach betrays him, and my personal favourite, falling for a halfling girl named Alexandra, turning around and worrying about her well being if the relationship got physical in any way. The way he is played is comedic genius much of the time, but it is his personality otherwise that is also memorable. Vli is a great character, for his weaknesses, his oblivious nature, his kindness and his willingness to tell people not to be intimidated by his mighty stature. Anette and the "big guy" as she calls him have two polarizing relationships, in battle and out of it. In combat, both act as front line attackers and have built respect with each other because of it. First as a one-upping each other relationship, into a legitimately well oiled machine. As for out of combat...Anette loves the little guy, he is funny, sweet, caring and would do anything for a friend. Vli's Barbarian nature proves a tad awkward occasionally, but it does not even begin to cut into the friendship that the two have formed. Against popular belief, Anette does not want into the sack with him....as it seems every other Woman on the planet does sans Talia.
With a basic outline of the cast I think I can get to what I was originally going to write up today.
First things first. Immediately as I built Anette I wanted her to not be the generic sword wielding bimbo that so many fictional swords women are:
I believe that I have done well in this regard, Yes Anette is attractive, but not from overly trying. she is attractive from genes, fitness and....well I like Red hair, so I think that in itself is a lock. She is fairly oblivious of her own charms since this journey started, only noticing once when somebody was flirting with her, and only because he was a very persistent bugger, and he was nice enough to tell her of her family's past. I do plan on easing out of my comfort zone with Anette into a relationship style RP section with an NPC or player, but the latter would only happen on a new member or a death extra off the bench. She may be oblivious, but she also is a person, one who would adore companionship from the right person.
Next, I wanted her to have two very different sides, ruthless in battle, and timid but nice out of it...this I have done less of a good job at.
Even early, Anette was a one sided personality. The shy side seemed a bit subdued in battle but was most certainly there. Even in the first battle she was a bit evasive of compliments from Clayrion. I have been trying and progressively getting better at this though, recently Anette chopped down a would be extortionist with a jab of the sword through the stomach, started laughing, kicked the body from her blade and screamed in a faux rage to intimidate the rest of the man's companions. This act worked, making the men and woman flee, as one even lost control over their bladder... I was proud of my little Spitfire, her first true intimidation.
I really wanted to stress the relationship between Clayrion as more like Brother/sister than anything else.
This is no contest, I believe I have done wonderfully. Playful jabs thrown at me and back to Clayrion. Working together, even when plans are not...smart. They love each other, and not in the "let's have sex" kind of way most DnD relationships eventually turn into.
Lastly, I wanted Anette to be passionate about self inserted role of protector of Clayrion.
I regret to say, that my RPing style is so immensely subdued that this...has been a major issue. I am still not completely comfortable with acting as a character, and even less so as a Female character. I am getting better, but I am severely flawed at this. I am going to put a bit of blame on the others in the group however though, since every messed up attempt is mocked infinitely.
Now I think I am just about done here, but I think in part five we will cover miss Decilles future...or at least ambition's of one...

How She came to be: Anette Decille Part three
Anette needed a back story that was not laughably dumb, or overly cliche and as I have said, she was kinda backed into a corner. So I came up with something I quite enjoyed and only slightly stepped into the realm of laughably over done. Though an unfortunate side effect of this process was that I did write large portions of a back story for Clayrion, much to the continued chagrin of his player Debby .
Anette Grew up in a family of four in a really dangerous, and quite lowly village just off the shore of the (I believe eastern) coast of the continent named Iunctio. This particular group of the Decille family was comprised of a Mother (Isabelle) a Father and older sister which I did not name, giving the privilege to the DM Tatsu (Which was 1 and 1, one great one that makes me want to punch him) who's monikers were Adele Decille and Pierre Decille respectively...guess which one annoys me. Isabelle and ...Anette's father really chose an awful place to raise a family, it did have a beautiful view of the ocean but it was also plainly visible to many unsavory ships and crews and the occasional group of slavers from any direction. Anette grew up for the first portion of her life fearing nearly everything away from the protection of her Father and Mother, she was even fairly spoiled in comparison to her sister A slight case of daddy's little princess was there, with her frail form and her nervous nature her Father just wanted her to be safe and healthy. Which Pier...Mr. Decille was very good at, Anette's Father was a very talented swordsman, and scary strong to boot...the man used a sword that would make most Square Enix hero's jealous. From the outside looking in, Anette's Father was a monstrous in stature and respected in life man who would intimidate people inadvertently but would treat his family with so much compassion, Anette only remembers the latter.
After a particularly rainy and warm winter in which floods occurred and lighting struck people in the village twice in a span of 4 months, the beginning of Anette's journey began. After a day where outsiders wreaked havoc with violent act's seemingly at random, just after sundown, they showed a collective intention a very horrific one at that. The bunch around town, and some more from outside of the walls started causing mayhem, striking down the young, the old and making a notice. The sun was just heading down so the village was still quite awake, but as screams started littering the air and the uneasy sensation of seeing people not only being struck down but friends and family alike murdered in front of the eyes of the still living.
Anette remembers virtually nothing of the night in question, she remembers her blood stained father running into the Decille home yelling in a panic at Isabelle to "get what you need to protect your self and get the girls out of here this instant" She remembers that one moment so well, because it was the only time she had ever seen her father being so loud and demanding toward her mother with a look of pure despair in his eyes. Anette did not know what was happening, or what that look was, but it stuck in her mind like a masterfully created portrait. Adelle and Isabelle saw something else that night but that is neither here nor there. Isabelle grabbed a great sword which was given to her by Pierre as a gift, then trained to use it well enough to defend her self, prayed to the Goddess of luck for any kind of fortune on the night and she and her daughters cautiously but quickly as possible left the house to see their father and husband keeping people off of them as best he could as they said a lot of things Anette could not here, or in the case she could, it often made no sense. All she remembers about the last time she saw her father is that the majority of the violent group closed in on him, making Pierre the lone focus for much of the attack.
The next two weeks of Anette's life was running, from town to town, with Isabelle occasionally having to fight off people trying to make a woman and her two daughters a sick variation of a haul. During this period of time, Anette could remember only two things and rightfully so considering. Her family in it's diminished numbers received countless uncomfortable looks in the few villages they passed by, and that while in the middle of nowhere, trust has to be earned, with numerous men trying to get the best of her mother after feigning decency.
Alas, after two weeks of harsh gazes and even harsher circumstances the three found their way into a relatively small city, and without any asking, without any begging, the sickly looking and injured Decille women were taken in by a holy man and tended to nearly immediately. This man was a very respected and very adept cleric by the name of Des Malyce. The man was uncannily generous, even as much as opening up his home to the Decille's, even if it was slightly cramped when you included the man's wife and son Clayrion. The stay was actually not a very temporary one, the kind man allowed the three Decille's to stay with his family for many years. The relationship was much like a large family for the most part. The children collectively acted like siblings and Isabelle after a long initial talk with the two adult Des Malyce's they formed an understanding, she would find work and help out as much as she possibly could and in exchange she and her daughters could stay in the house, all bunking in the basement.
It all seemed too good to be true for Anette, the man coming out of nowhere to help them with such little resistance and such willingness...she had never seen anything like it before. She was a little annoyed at the prospect of having to share a bed with Adelle for a while, and she missed her father, flat out bawling for weeks about it, Anette was in a rough state even at 7 years of age and she was a tad untrusting at first of this apparent miracle. Over time Anette and Adelle learned that everything the man did was in the best interests of the many and not himself, they also learned that the hospitality was not strictly from him. The man's wife was kind to the girls and Isabelle, eventually letting them call her by the title aunt, and Clayrion...well Anette and Clayrion formed a solid relationship rather quickly for a few act's he had made. The only act that stuck in Anette's head growing up though was how Clayrion, even at a young age stood up for her when people picked on the small girl for reasons she didn't understand at all, even as she grew older, the focus on her confused her, but Clayrion was always there to cheer her up or to have her back, which was a major deal considering how hurt Anette was after her impromptu eviction from her home village. Some boys would pick on her and push her around, only to be socked by Clayrion, some girls would insult her and throw punches as well, again to be mended or guarded by Clayrion. While she did appreciate everything that Clayrion did for her as a friend, she started thinking of him as more of a big brother, regardless of blood.
Time went on and Clayrion, Adele and Anette all grew. Adele had left the town at eighteen without telling Anette why, though she told her mother. Clayrion had grown into a strong smart young man in front of Anette's eyes, a handsome one she would be willing to say, to boot. As for Anette, she grew in age and stature but she never shook the body type she had, she was a small little girl who progressively grew into a petite young woman. As she got older she got a little more confident and she also grew closer to Clayrion...until Clayrion had to leave home to earn his way into his family's chosen order at sixteen.
By this point Anette was alone, the sister she loved had left without telling her why and her best friend had left when she was fifteen. Yes she had her mother and the Des Malyce's still, but her companionship was all gone. This is when she slipped into a depression and and began losing hope...she remembered all of the protecting Clayrion had done for her, even before they had gotten close and realized what she wanted to do. Anette was going to find Clayrion and not only thank him, but return the favor as best she could. She accepted requests of helping around town with any odd jobs, this got her mind off of things as well as built up some seriously needed muscle. She also began training in secret how to safely use a sword, because she knew that she would not be too helpful if she cut off her own hand. and in a period of three and a half years, the petite young redhead who looked like a stick had grown into a fairly shapely, though still short woman with a very nicely toned musculature.
On the eve of her eighteenth birthday Anette informed Isabelle of what she was planning on doing. Unlike what she had expected Anette's mother was respectful of her decision. She had been the only person who truly witnessed the transformation from nervous, frail tiny Anette to a strong, beautiful and...slightly more confident Woman. Her Mother decided not to hinder her in any way, and instead replaced the shoddy little sword Anette planned on using with the great sword she had been given by her husband. The sword she then informed Anette she had received because her father loved the entire family and wanted to keep them safe. The name Isabelle was engraved on the blade, and because of this Anette refers to her sword by her mothers name. Teary eyed and very emotional, Anette knew she had to do this she left at sunrise to find and help her best friend.
Like I said, her back story was nothing special, but it was something that allowed me at least a little creativity and redemption considering the circumstances behind Anette as a whole. I believe that this will be all for the night, but when I return I think I will grade my self....

How She came to be: Anette Decille Part two
I had The idea but I had previously boxed myself in a little bit. Anette at the start of the campaign was a twenty two year old human fighter...I was a little confined in possible backgrounds. If she was an elf, she would have had at least one hundred and ten years before maturity to gain wisdom and live her life... on the other side, if she was something like a mage or a thief there could be some behind the scenes stuff involved with the girl gaining her prowess in either field... but alas Anette was a fighter. So I surveyed my situation, I was playing a young Female Human fighter...my challenge here was to make something I found interesting around "I hit stuff really hard" with no reasoning behind it. I first looked at my rolls, which were stupidly good on her stats. (to anyone who does not know, stat rolls are set for Dexterity, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma, Constitution and Strength, determined by dice rolls) She was strong, dexterous and charismatic, though she was not particularly bad at much.
Anette's Charisma could be easily worked in as her being good looking and somebody who could give an awesome speech or utterly intimidate people. The latter stuck, but I decided against Anette being an inspirational speaker for a reason I will mention in a moment. High Charisma could also indicate Anette being a good liar, a level head, and good with animals, among other things. I ultimately decided that none of these should really be her personality, though she does like animals. Charisma wise I wanted to make her less of an obvious idea, so this incredibly strong and deadly woman would eventually be settled upon in my head, as a person who is not nearly assertive enough to take advantage of her charms and looks, admittedly with a breaking point. Anette would rarely speak up on things she felt were unimportant to the overall picture was my first decision. One of the few I have actually acted out well. (dare I say good?) Out of battle, Anette is a relatively quiet person around people she does not know, and she likes to think her self sociable around her friends and her family. This was the idea, however my lack of comfort with acting a character sometimes completely derails this idea into pure silence with a great sword. On top of that, I didn't want Anette to stress over her looks or really use them too much, she is there for a cause, not to look fantastic. even if her training and genes have given her a well toned and all around good looking body. The red hair was me self inserting something I like, no big reason, I just like red heads, but the striking blue eyes were placed for her to be able to hopefully strike some fear into her foes. (which at the point of writing this, has happened twice with the eyes mentioned) Anette looks good however since it is not her top priority, she rarely shows she even knows. This was a choice I made for her because I wanted her to be focused, and as of now, she has been hit on a few times, only to get confused and think they are talking to the other female of the party. This route has been met with some jokes and insults at me being uneasy to actually play somebody where I have to act as a confident female (I am neither) where there is a little truth behind that, I certainly would have tried if I wanted to, again, I wanted Anette focused on what she was alive for.
With a terrible segue I will jump from her Charisma to her Dexterity and Strength. The back story I eventually chose for Anette left her with a handful of years to her self (detailed thought behind her past will be in part three) these years separated from the most important people in her life (admittedly she still had her Mother) she began to grow a little mentally unstable. Focusing on thoughts more than she should, doubting herself, a little bit of schizophrenia and of course, basic depression. These all played a factor in the last years of her home life before setting out on an adventure...a huge factor in fact. Anette's Mother (Isabelle Decille) grew worried for her daughter, and rightfully so, her attempt to help was a little left field but she thought it would work...Anette needed to help out around town, needed to socialize with people, needed a life, one that would not get up and leave upon reaching maturity. Anette toiled in the small farming town extensively at the request of her Mother, she began learning about the people around town more and becoming less...shut off from everyone. The extensive work around the town, as one could imagine worked wonders for a frail young girl's musculature, she built muscle...a lot of it in the years she spent helping out. Alternatively she spent a lot of time with the people of the city, learning a few things about herself that would stick with her. She hated drunks, and adored children. She often would accept tasks of looking after children in the small town because she and them were friends... no asking for her help with her muscle, no attraction no ulterior motives, The children needed to be watched, Anette obliged and was great with the kids, forming some friendships with them. When she was around the kids, she felt that she was depended upon, and not depending on somebody like the rest of her life. of course, her freakish strength also helped her get out of her little pit of despair, she was happy helping out the town and kids in it, even if her mind was elsewhere. Off to the side, during the years where she was fighting through her demons she did start trying to learn a little about self defense with a sword. This process was rather simple, she progressively learned how to optimize her swings of the sword, as not to injure herself while swinging her weapon of choice. She also learned how to fire a bow...not very well but she has not splintered an arrow into her own eye yet so she considers it acceptable. (she has had horrid rolls on her attacks every time she uses her bow) I decided character wise, that it would be best if she trained in secret due to an incident from the past of Isabelle and herself. Anette wanted to train in secret, thinking Her Mother would stop it the second she found out.
Anette lived her life, day by day, building strength, confidence and escaping her depression. I wanted her to fight inner demons for a few reasons. First of all I wanted her relationship with Clayrion to have more meaning than just friend's but not the level of romantically attached. Secondly I thought the idea of a character with two distinct mind sets would be fun. Combat Anette and non-combat Anette are two very different personalities. and admittedly, it has been thus far. and lastly....and likely the most condemning of all I felt like I could accurately act as somebody with such glaring emotional issues...and I believe I have done decently at it.
Of course, this entire section means very little without context into her past, so I think that is what I will start next...

How She came to be: Anette Decille Part one
Anette Decille 1, Made by Teleghost
Anette Decille 2, made by Willonaz
Anette Decille, I might as well start out with my favorite for this little project. This is the first part of a little writing project I have wanted to do for a while now, The different dimensions of various Dungeons and Dragons characters. Of course, Anette is a character I play, but I plan on trying this for characters of others, admittedly with a different spin. (Fingers crossed people actually read this)
A brief outline first, this will be written and uploaded in a number of parts, and the exact number as it stands now will vary with the character. However a basic idea is Background, Intentions/what happened, the story she plays a role in, the relationships she has formed with the characters she has been around and perhaps ideas moving forward.
Alas, Anette....Anette is a bizarre character to say the least in my eyes. There is perhaps more story about her behind the scenes than in the story itself, if not, damned close. Before I go into it however a brief lesson of the circumstances behind her. Anette is my character for a campaign run by a friend, a campaign which started out with a companion campaign. The initial idea was a "face" and a "heel" campaign (Face and heel being pro wrestling terminology for good/hero and bad/villain respectively) The idea of playing an evil character caught my interest immediately at the time, being new at the entire role playing thing I thought it would be fantastic for getting out of my comfort zone and getting more comfortable playing characters. I put all of my attention pre-campaign on that character. Akkis, was an Elven Rogue who was very demanding around women as well as a terrible drunk. he had a completely written back story going into his character and the like, up until then, by far my most pre-developed character.
The Heel Campaign included Akkis, a Human fighter and a Human sorcerer (to my recollection) all of which were male. and the Face campaign was then a Male Human Cleric, Female Human Monk and a Male Halfling Barbarian. I was told to make a character for it on the spot, because the time was drawing near to begin. I created a very simple, very fast and very thoughtless character and sheet. Quick rolls, no back story, and here is the kicker, her name was chosen for two reasons. A) I like the name Anette...hell I like many French feminine names and B) she was to be a joke...she was to be nothing more than a character with a horribly throw away gimmick of inserting French into her speech...in a world that has no French. As you could tell I really did not take her seriously. She had good stat rolls but nearly zero effort behind her.
With zero interest I started the first session of the "Face" campaign. The way it was planned out was that two people would start and the other two would join in later. This was the choice for two reasons, some attendance issues and a collective agreement that narrative should be taken seriously, and finding the rest of the party would give more room for character development than the "WE ALL KNOW EACH OTHER" approach, which I really dislike. So the Cleric (Clayrion Des Malyce) and Anette were the two who started, the scene was painted as such: we were in a small desert village and Clayrion was looking for the same player's Heel character, Vaulk...That was it, plain and simple. Anette was tagging along as a companion for no given reason...again I clearly gave as much effort as humanly possible...
As the session went on Clayrion (Played by Debby) and Anette showed an interesting, fun to act out and overall idea starting relationship. They were chummy and respectful, it was not some stupid immediate sexual tension filled relationship, nor was it a relationship all about sex, they were friends, that is how we acted it out, and that is when my brain went running. We fought our first encounter and gained a new level of back and forth and then finally hit the last encounter of the night and the last one before party members three and four joined. The First encounter was with a giant bird, in which Clayrion and Anette trusted each other enough to efficiently take down after some risky choices to take down the flying....cowardly bird. and the second was a storied battle we were meant to fail, we were to perish. We did of course because thou shall not piss off the Dungeon Master but before we did, Anette and Clayrion worked in tandem to strike down numerous undead and severely damaged a Lich, even to the point of what we believed was it's death. The Cleric did some risky things while the Fighter did her best to keep the swarm of death around them from getting to him as best she could. This interaction really got my head running as I began writing a character profile and back story for Anette....and without permission, partially for Clayrion....kinda really amazingly restricting for him, but Debby has since forgiven me. Though, as a final note, I would like to clarify...the Heel campaign lasted all of two sessions before interest was collectively lost...kinda funny how that works huh?
Anette Decille... in 4 hours of play, with a player opposite in which I was comfortable enough with to do my best RP'ing with up until then, made a character with no effort behind her, no ideas and no direction into a character who would soon have a back story and a purpose so important to herself she devoted her entire adult life to it....
